Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti has said that he was on the verge of stopping Karim Benzema from shooting penalties before the Frenchman missed a very vital one against Osasuna on Sunday.
He said he decided to stick with the Frenchman because of his performance last season.
Benzema was pivotal for the La Liga giants’ winning the domestic and Champions League titles last season.
He scored two penalties in the semifinals against Manchester City, one in each leg.
Benzema, however, wasted a penalty on Sunday night in a 1-1 draw against Osasuna that saw them drop points and allow Barcelona to climb top of the league table.
Ancelotti spoke to the media after the draw and talked about the penalty miss. He said:
“I thought about changing the shooter, but Karim took the two biggest penalties last season.
“He’s the best shooter we have. It hasn’t been his best game after this stretch of injury.”
