Spanish side, Athletico Madrid have put Antoine Griezmann up for sale in an attempt to secure Ronaldo‘s move to La Liga from Manchester United.
The Spanish club need to create space on their wage bill to accommodate Ronaldo’s salary and last week offered Griezmann, the France forward, to potential employers, including Paris Saint-Germain.
Griezmann was signed by Barcelona in a €120 million (now about £102 million) release-clause transfer in 2019, Griezmann moved back to Atletico last summer.
The forward is midway through a two-season loan deal that includes a “compulsory permanent transfer clause” of €40 million. PSG, who have been trying to offload overpaid, underperforming players of their own, including Neymar, are not interested in taking Griezmann.
It was reported this week that the 37-year-old would be interested in joining Atletico, despite spending nine years at their arch-rivals Real Madrid.
While Atletico are trying to move Griezmann, the Mirror reports that United could let Ronaldo leave on loan for a season in order to satisfy his desire for Champions League football in return for him extending his contract by a year until 2024.
