The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle has suspended the Emir of Birnin ‘Yandoto of Tsafe Local Government Area, Alhaji Aliyu Marafa, for conferring a chieftaincy title on a banditry kingpin, Ado Aleiro.
The emir conferred the title on the repentant bandit kingpin in a ceremony which took place on saturday in Yandoto town, the headquarters of the emirate.
The spokesperson of the emirate, Lawali Magaji, said, the title of Sarkin Fulani was conferred on Aliero due to the pivotal role he played during a recent peace process locally arranged between the emirate and the bandits terrorizing Tsafe Local Government Area.
“He has been trying to stop banditry within the emirate and we have seen positive changes.
“The conferment of the title of Sarkin Fulani on Adamu Aliero will give him more power to control the entire Fulani people within the emirate. It will also enable him to checkmate the activities of the recalcitrant bandits and take action against them,” he said.
However, in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Kabiru Balarabe Sardauna, the government distanced itself from all the processes and announced the suspension of the emir with immediate effect.
The statement confirmed Alh. Mahe Garba Marafa, as the new District Head to take charge of the affairs of the emirate.
The government also raised a six-man committee chaired by Yahaya Chado Gora to investigate the circumstances leading to the action of the emir.
