The deputy governor of Oyo State, Engr Rauf Olaniyan, has been impeached by the State House Assembly.
Olaniyan was removed by members of the House of Assembly on Monday around 11:00 am by the lawmakers following allegations levied against him.
The House of Assembly is dominated by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the report of the committee set up by Chief Judge Munta Abimbola to investigate the allegations levied against the deputy governor, the report submitted during Monday plenary confirmed the deputy governor was found guilty of all the allegations.
Allegations raised against the deputy governor include gross misconduct, abuse of office, financial recklessness, abandonment of office/official duty, insubordination and other offences.
The announcement of the impeachment was made on Monday following the adoption of the recommendations of the report of the seven-man panel set up to investigate allegations levelled against Mr Olaniyan.
However, Oyo State House of Assembly on Monday approved the appointment of Adebayo Lawal as the new Deputy Governor following the removal of Rauf Olaniyan.
The approval followed the nomination of Lawal to the lawmakers for consideration by Governor Seyi Makinde as a replacement for Olaniyan.
Before his appointment, Lawal was the Chairman of the State Housing Corporation.
He had also served as the state Attorney-General.
